| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, a large crowned Gothic letter 'E' — the civic monogram of Einbeck — dominates the field, rendered in ornate calligraphic style beneath a five-pointed crown. The surrounding legend, reading MON·NOVA·EINBEC, is interrupted by the date, here 1659, running along the left side of the coin. The design is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German municipal coinage, with the crowned initial serving as the primary heraldic device. |

| Reverse description | The enthroned Virgin Mary, crowned and standing on a crescent moon, holds the Christ Child before her in the traditional Madonna and Child devotional type. The Virgin is depicted facing, her robes falling in stylized folds, with the infant Christ prominently displayed at center. The encircling legend reads MAT·DO·MARIA, identifying the figure as the Mother of God, Mary. Small decorative stops separate the legend elements. The imagery gives the coin its popular name, Mariengroschen, reflecting the Marian devotion common in early modern German ecclesiastical and civic coinage. |
