| Obverse description | Central field displays a large crowned Gothic letter 'G', the initial of Göttingen, surmounted by an open municipal crown. Two small heraldic animals flank the letter on either side. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A Latin circumscription reading MONETA:NOVA:GOTTING: followed by the date 1538 runs between the inner and outer rims in Gothic lettering, typical of mid-sixteenth-century North German civic coinage. |
