| Obverse description | Central device depicts a traditional Venetian sailing boat (bragozzo or similar lateen-rigged vessel) shown in profile, set within a stylized starburst or zigzag decorative frame. The denomination numeral '1' appears in the lower centre field flanked by the legends 'ITALIA 72' to the left and 'MARENGO' to the right. The place name 'GRADO' is inscribed in large spaced letters along the upper arc of the field. A small engraver's mark ('SDC') is visible in the lower exergue.
