Obverse description Central field displays the yoke shield (escudo del yugo), a heraldic device associated with Ferdinand V, surmounted by a crown. The mint mark 'S' for Seville appears below the shield. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading partially FERNANDVS 7 ELISA, identifying the joint monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella. The flan is irregular and the strike characteristic of hammered coinage of the period.
