Suleyman II came to power in 1687 after his brother Mehmed IV was deposed following the catastrophic failure of the second Ottoman siege of Vienna and the subsequent rout at the Battle of Mohacs. The mangir — the smallest Ottoman copper denomination — was already a coin of minimal purchasing power by this point, and Suleyman's brief reign saw the treasury under severe strain from continuous war with the Holy League.
The two KM varieties reflect differences in mint of issue, a distinction that remains incompletely resolved in the literature.
