| Opmerkingen |
Turkmenistan's 2020 redenomination replaced the 2009 manat series at par, an unusual move — redenominations typically address hyperinflation or significant devaluation, neither of which applied here. The official rationale centered on updated security features and a thematic refresh tied to state iconography, though the timing also aligned with the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality status, recognized by the UN in December 1995 and reaffirmed in 1995 and 2015.
Thomas De La Rue has printed Turkmenistan's banknotes since the manat's introduction in 1993, making the relationship one of the longer-standing sovereign printing contracts in Central Asia.
