Obverse description Central field features a dynamic full-length figure of a man in motion, arms outstretched, standing atop a pedestal, set against an ornate background of swirling scroll motifs within a raised inner circle. The outer border is styled as a toothed gear rim, evoking the commune's countercultural and artisan identity. The legend FRISTADEN CHRISTIANIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2016 divided at the sides, and the motto LEV OG LAD ANDRE LEVE inscribed along the lower border.

Additional information

Freetown Christiania, the self-declared autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen, has issued its own coinage intermittently since the 1970s as a deliberate assertion of independence from the Danish state. These pieces circulate internally among the commune's roughly 900 residents and are occasionally accepted at businesses within the settlement's boundaries. The Danish government has tolerated Christiania's existence under a series of uneasy legal arrangements, the most recent of which saw the residents collectively purchase the land in 2011 after decades of threatened eviction.

The 2016 issues correspond to an updated series following that normalization agreement.
