| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central design depicts a whimsical cartoon figure riding in a laden cart or wagon and waving a flag bearing three circles, the emblem of Freetown Christiania. The scene is rendered in a folk-art illustrative style within an irregular, gear-tooth border. The circular legend reads FRISTADEN CHRISTIANIA along the upper arc, with the date 1999 split at the lower left, and the motto LEV OG LAD ANDRE LEVE (Live and let others live) along the lower arc. |

Christiania's token coinage was never legal tender — it circulated internally as part of the freetown's parallel economy, accepted at communal businesses within the Copenhagen enclave that Danish authorities had repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, attempted to shut down throughout the 1990s. The 1999 issue appeared during a period of particularly acute political pressure, when the government was actively pursuing legislation to dissolve the community's autonomous status.
