Reverse description Central field bears the large numeral '1' in bold relief, flanked symmetrically by two broad decorative leaves springing from a shared base. Below the numeral, a heart motif is prominently displayed, beneath which a ribbon or banner carries the denomination legend 'LØN'. Small symbolic devices — including what appears to be an Om symbol at the lower left and a lotus flower at the lower right — occupy the field beside the foliage. The rim is bordered by a dashed or stitched inner circle, reinforcing the hand-crafted aesthetic characteristic of Christiania's local coinage.

Additional information

Freetown Christiania, the self-declared autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen, began issuing its own coinage in the 1970s as a deliberate rejection of Danish state authority — part of the commune's broader experiment in anarchist self-governance that has survived, despite repeated government attempts at closure, for over fifty years. The Løn denominations were used internally, primarily for transactions at communal establishments on Pusher Street and in the commune's collective spaces.

The 1997 date places this piece during a relatively stable period for Christiania, between the major legal confrontations of the 1970s and the 2004 government crackdown that briefly shuttered the open cannabis market.
