| 正面描述 | The first Coat of Arms of independent Malta occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield charged with the George Cross and vertical pales, supported on either side by two seahorses rampant. The shield is surmounted by a mural crown, and a scroll below bears the national motto 'VIRTUTE ET CONSTANTIA'. The legend 'MALTA' is inscribed in large, widely-spaced letters along the lower periphery. |

| 背面描述 | A left-facing portrait bust of Sir Temi Zammit, the distinguished Maltese archaeologist and physician, dominates the central field in high relief. Notably, the letter 'Z' in 'ZAMMIT' appears inverted on this specimen strike, a die anomaly reportedly corrected for the regular issue; additionally, the honorific 'SIR' present in the specimen's reverse legend was subsequently removed from the standard coinage. The surrounding legend identifies the subject and provides his life dates, with the denomination and date inscribed in the lower field. The word 'SPECIMEN' is struck across the design to identify this piece as a pattern or trial strike. |
