1975 was a Holy Year — Anno Santo — declared by Paul VI, and the Vatican's coin issues for that year were produced specifically for the jubilee. Pilgrim demand for official Vatican coinage as devotional keepsakes meant these pieces were overwhelmingly saved rather than spent, which accounts for why mint-state survivors are not particularly difficult to find despite modest nominal mintages.
