| Obverse description | Central field of the coin depicts a frontal view of the Grand National Assembly building in Ankara, rendered in fine detail with a flag atop the structure. Below the building, a stylised '100' anniversary monogram flanks the dual dates '1920' and '2020', with the inscription 'NİSAN' (April) beneath. A ring of stars surrounds the central design, separating it from the outer nickel brass ring bearing the legend 'TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ' in raised Latin characters along the upper periphery. A small mint mark appears at the bottom of the inner disc. |

The Grand National Assembly series was introduced to mark the centennial of the Turkish parliament, established in Ankara on April 23, 1920, as Mustafa Kemal's deliberate counter-authority to the Ottoman sultan's occupied government in Istanbul. The assembly's founding was, in practical terms, an act of political survival — Istanbul was under Allied military control, and Kemal needed a legitimate sovereign body to prosecute the War of Independence.
Circulating commemoratives of this type replaced the standard lira design for general circulation rather than being issued as collectibles — a deliberate choice to push the centennial narrative into everyday commerce.
