Additional information

San Marino's 1972–1974 coinage series was the first issued under the republic's renewed mint agreement with Italy following decades of relying entirely on Italian legal tender for everyday circulation. These small aluminium pieces were struck at the Rome Mint and, despite being technically legal tender, were almost immediately absorbed by collectors rather than commerce — a fate that afflicts virtually every San Marino issue from this period.
