| Obverse description | The Medici coat of arms, comprising a shield charged with the characteristic palle (roundels) of the Medici family, surmounted by a grand ducal crown, occupies the central field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading FER·MB·MAG· / ·DVX·ETRVRIA·III·, identifying Ferdinando I as Grand Duke of Tuscany. The design is framed by a beaded border. The heraldic composition is rendered in the late Renaissance style typical of Florentine coinage. |

| Reverse description | Two draped female figures, identifiable as mermaids or marine allegorical figures, are depicted flanking a hippopotamus (hippos) shown from below in the water, a distinctive emblem associated with Ferdinando I de' Medici. The scene is framed by a circular Latin legend reading CILIA·DOMIN·ECCL· with the date ·1591· at the base. The composition is enclosed within a beaded border and reflects the mannerist engraving style of the late sixteenth-century Florentine mint. |
