Opmerkingen

Emergency fiduciary notes issued by Italian regional military commands during World War One occupy a peculiar corner of Italian notaphily. The Territorial Army Corps commands were authorized to produce low-denomination circulating notes to address the acute coin shortage that gripped Italy from 1915 onward — small change had effectively vanished from daily commerce as silver and copper were hoarded or requisitioned. Florence's command was one of several that turned to the Istituto Geografico Militare, the military's own cartographic and printing establishment, which happened to be headquartered in the city.

These notes circulated locally and were never legal tender outside the issuing district. Redemption records are poor.
