The Cassa Veneta dei Prestiti was an Austro-Hungarian military finance institution established in 1918 specifically to manage currency in the occupied Veneto region following Italy's catastrophic defeat at Caporetto in late 1917. These notes were not civilian bank issues — they were an occupying power's tool for economic administration of conquered Italian territory, denominated in lire rather than crowns precisely to ease extraction of resources from the local population without triggering immediate monetary dislocation.
The series circulated for only a matter of months before the Austrian collapse in November 1918 rendered the issuing authority nonexistent.
