Turkey's bimetallic lira series, introduced following the devastating hyperinflation that had rendered the old lira essentially worthless by the early 2000s, was part of the 2005 redenomination that dropped six zeros from the currency. The Anatolian mouflon — Ovis gmelini anatolica — is native to the Konya plateau and has been under active conservation pressure for decades, its wild population reduced to a few hundred animals by the late twentieth century before breeding programs stabilized numbers.
