Issued to commemorate the inauguration ceremony following Turkey's May 2023 presidential election, in which Erdoğan secured a third term after a runoff against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu — the first runoff in Turkish republican history. The election took place against a backdrop of severe currency depreciation; the lira had lost roughly 80% of its value against the dollar in the preceding two years, making the face value of this coin almost entirely symbolic.
