Obverse description The centre of the note is dominated by a large scroll vignette bearing the Maltese legal tender inscription in Maltese, with a multicolour intaglio map of Malta and the denomination 'LIRA' in ornate script superimposed upon it. The Maltese coat of arms with two armoured knights as supporters and the motto 'FIDUCIA FORTIS' appears at right, while a war memorial column vignette occupies the left margin. The bank title 'BANK ĊENTRALI TA' MALTA' is printed in bold letterpress across the top, with the denomination '£M1' shown at lower left and lower right, and two facsimile signatures appear below the scroll.
