| 表面の説明 | Bare-headed effigy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk facing left, rendered in high relief with finely modelled facial features. The portrait is set within a plain field, occupying the central area of the flan. The circular legend TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ (Republic of Turkey) runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by a small dot serving as a divider. The design is the work of Italian engraver Pietro Giampaoli. |

By 1957, Turkey had been issuing the lira in this copper-nickel format for nearly a decade, a shift driven by postwar metal economics rather than any monetary reform. The Demokrat Parti government of Adnan Menderes was in its final years — it would be toppled by military coup in 1960 — and the Turkish economy was under significant strain from inflation and foreign debt pressures that made even base-metal coinage a considered choice.
KM#889 saw wide circulation through the early 1960s. Worn examples are the rule.
