Beschrijving keerzijde Central design features a large numeral '1' surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked symmetrically by two upright stalks of wheat, all set against a crescent moon in the lower field, symbolising Turkish national identity and agricultural prosperity. Below the numeral, the denomination LIRA and the date of issue are inscribed within a circular inner border. The composition is bold and emblematic, with strong geometric lines and high relief elements. A dentilated border encircles the entire reverse field.

Aanvullende informatie

Turkey's entry into World War II was a matter of careful neutrality, but the economic pressure was immediate. The 1940–41 silver lira was minted while Ankara was simultaneously negotiating the Clodius Agreement with Nazi Germany and a mutual assistance pact with Britain and France — extracting maximum advantage from both sides. Wartime silver hoarding hit Turkish coinage hard, and issues from these two years were largely pulled from circulation and melted as the metal premium climbed.
