| Opis awersu | Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned royal arms of Scotland displayed on a shield bearing the rampant lion, surmounted by a large ornate crown with fleurs-de-lis finials. Two smaller crowns flank the shield at the lower left and right, serving as supporting ornaments. The heraldic composition is rendered in bold relief in the characteristic Gothic style of fifteenth-century Scottish hammered coinage. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters reads IACOBVS DEI GRA REX SCOTTORVM, separated by mullets or stops. |
