| Beschrijving voorzijde | Crowned conjoined monogram of 'FM' (for Francis and Mary) occupying the central field, flanked on either side by a right-facing dolphin in low relief, characteristic of the Dauphin's heraldic emblem. A crown surmounts the monogram above. The surrounding legend is rendered in Gothic-influenced Latin characters separated by annulets. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat weak, typical of hammered billon coinage of mid-sixteenth century Scotland. |
