| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse of the host coin (Mexico 5 Pesos, KM#465) bears the Mexican national arms at center — an eagle perched on a cactus, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons — upon which a bold applied counterstamp has been struck. The counterstamp legend reads ANGUILLA in large capitals arranged along the upper arc of the field, flanked by bullet stops, with LIBERTY DOLLAR continuing around the lower arc. Centrally applied across the host coin's device, in three lines, is the commemorative date JULY / 11 / 1967, marking Anguilla's declaration of independence from the associated state of Saint Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla. The counterstamp letters are large and somewhat crudely executed, consistent with the improvised nature of this provisional issue. |
