The effigy is rendered with fine detail typical of mid-18th century Habsburg portraiture. A Latin legend commencing at approximately 7 o'clock encircles the bust, abbreviating her full imperial titles as Empress of the Romans and Queen of Germany, Hungary, Bohemia, Archduchess of Austria, and Duchess of Burgundy. The legend reads: M·T·D·G·R·IMP·G·H·B·REG·A·A·D·BURG·. The field surrounding the portrait is plain. |

The Austrian Netherlands liard issues of this period were struck under Maria Theresia's ongoing effort to rationalize the patchwork coinage inherited from decades of Spanish and then Austrian Habsburg administration in the Low Countries. The Brussels mint handled production, though output was erratic — copper denominations in particular were subject to chronic shortages of planchet supply during these years.
The dual naming, liard in French and oord in Dutch, reflects the linguistic reality of governing a territory split between Walloon and Flemish populations, a political concession baked directly into the coin itself.
