Additional information

The Austrian Netherlands liard issues of 1744–45 were struck at a moment of acute political instability — French forces under Marshal Saxe were systematically overrunning the southern provinces during the War of the Austrian Succession, and Tournai fell in June 1745. Coinage continued partly as an assertion of Habsburg administrative continuity in territories that were actively being lost. Several mints in the region ceased operations within months of these strikes.
