Maximilian Emanuel of Bavaria held Namur as part of his Spanish Netherlands governorship, a position he nearly lost permanently after backing the wrong side in the War of the Spanish Succession — his territories were occupied by Allied forces following the Battle of Ramillies in 1706. This liard was struck during his restored administration after the Treaty of Utrecht partially rehabilitated his standing, though Bavaria itself would not fully recover his confiscated German lands until 1714.
