Obverse description Right-facing draped and cuirassed bust of Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, rendered in the mannered style typical of early seventeenth-century French provincial coinage, with a prominent milled (ruff) collar — the characteristic feature of this Type 3 variety — and a mascaron ornament at the shoulder. A scarf or sash extends behind the bust. The date appears in the exergue below a horizontal dividing line, separated from the principal field.
