Reverse description Central type consisting of a boldly struck lobated cross with a voided center, each arm terminating in a trefoil or rounded lobe, forming an ornamental quadrilobe design. A single pellet is placed in each of the four angles between the arms of the cross. The peripheral Latin legend is divided by the cross and runs continuously around the irregular flan, with pellet stops separating the words. The overall execution is consistent with the provincial hammered coinage of the Italian States in the late sixteenth century.
