| Obverse description | Central field features the Romanian royal coat of arms, depicting a quartered shield supported by two rampant lions, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield incorporates the traditional heraldic symbols of the Romanian principalities, including an eagle, a bull's head, and floral motifs, with a crowned escutcheon at center. The legend ROMANIA arcs across the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals, flanked by small six-pointed star ornaments, while the date 1924 appears in large numerals along the lower periphery. Romania's postwar coinage reform took years to stabilize, and 1924 pattern strikes like this one were part of an extended trial process as the National Bank evaluated compositions and designs before committing to full production. The circulating 1 Leu series that followed was ultimately struck in cupro-nickel, making copper trial pieces documentary evidence of a path not taken.
KM#Pn205 is among a clutch of 1924 patterns in differing metals — copper, aluminum, nickel — struck for official evaluation. Surviving examples are institutional in origin, not trade pieces.
