| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Carol I facing left, with a full beard and short hair rendered in fine relief. The circumscribed legend along the upper periphery reads CAROL I REGE AL ROMANIEI, with the commemorative regnal dates 1866-1906 appearing in the lower field flanked by small stars. The engraver's initials A.M. are discreetly placed at the base of the neck truncation. The whole is framed by a toothed border, consistent with the medallic presentation of this commemorative pattern issue. |
