Obverse description Black text on green guilloche underprint. A vignette of Mercury appears at left, with a laureate female head at right. The central field carries the denomination and issuing authority inscriptions in Romanian, with the note issued under special privilege and backed by a cash deposit at the Bank of the German Empire, Berlin.

Reverse description Dark green monochrome design with dense guilloche patterning covering the entire field. The bank title BANCA GENERALĂ ROMÂNĂ is inscribed across the top, with the large numeral "1" and denomination UN LEU prominently centred. Repeated denomination panels appear at lower left and lower right, and a rectangular text box at lower centre carries the anti-counterfeiting warning inscription in Romanian.
