Moldova's 1 Leu is a low-denomination workhorse that has circulated continuously since the leu was reintroduced in 1993, replacing the cupon — a stopgap currency Moldova used in the immediate post-Soviet period. The 2015 date reflects a routine replenishment printing rather than a new issue, with the Banque de France retaining the contract it has held for Moldovan currency across multiple print runs.

Security specification on this denomination is deliberately minimal — watermark and thread only, in keeping with its face value. The cotton substrate is standard for the series.
