Opmerkingen

The 1 Leone note of 1980 falls within the P#5–P#10 series that Bank of Sierra Leone issued through the 1970s and into the early 1980s, a period of deepening economic difficulty under Siaka Stevens's government. Stevens had declared Sierra Leone a one-party state in 1978, and the leone was already under pressure from declining diamond revenues and IMF-monitored austerity — not that any of that registers in De La Rue's clean, technically reliable print job.

Three signatures on a note of this denomination is notable. The inclusion of a Director alongside the Governor and Deputy Governor was not universal practice across African central banks of the period.
