Obverse description Portrait vignette of Lempira, the 16th-century Lenca chieftain and national hero, at left centre against a fine guilloche underprint in red and green, with the Honduran coat of arms at right. The large numeral '1' appears in an oval guilloche at centre, flanked by ornamental scroll work. Three manuscript signatures of bank officials appear along the lower margin.

Reverse description Central vignette of the archaeological ruins of Copán, encompassing the Mesoamerican ball court (Juego de Pelota) and the Hieroglyphic Stairway, rendered in intaglio against a red-toned guilloche ground. A carved stela is visible at far left, with trees and temple structures framing the panoramic scene. The denomination legend and site inscription appear in the lower portion of the design.
