Charles Philip of Greiffenklau-Vollraths held the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg for barely two years before his death in 1754, making his coinage issues among the shortest-lived of any 18th-century Franconian ecclesiastical ruler. The copper Kreuzer struck under his authority in 1752–53 represents nearly the entirety of his minting program — a compressed output driven by the practical need to supply small-denomination coinage to a diocese that had just changed hands.
Würzburg's copper issues of this period were struck under the Kreis coinage conventions governing Franconian Circle currency, a regulatory framework that bishops navigated carefully to maintain their minting prerogatives against growing Hohenzollern pressure in the region.
