| Obverse description | The outer legend commemorates 700 years of city rights for Groenlo (1277–1977) and the denomination '1 Leeuwendaler'. The central field features a relief device of a medieval field cannon on a wheeled carriage with a stack of cannonballs below, accompanied by the dates 1277–1977 along the lower inner ring and the dialect motto 'SO VASTE AS GROLLE' in the upper field.
