Issued as part of Latvia's long-running series celebrating the country's historical parishes and towns, this piece commemorates Straupe — a small village in Vidzeme whose documented history stretches back to the 13th century Livonian Order. The Bank of Latvia launched the parish series in the early 2000s as a sustained numismatic project, eventually covering dozens of Latvian localities before the country adopted the euro in 2014, ending domestic commemorative lats production entirely.
