| Reverse description | The reverse features a finely detailed female face rendered in the Art Nouveau style, depicted frontally with flowing hair swept upward and to the sides, framing the visage in an elegant, sinuous arrangement characteristic of the Jugendstil movement. The idealized effigy is presented in high relief against a mirror-proof field, with delicate linear detail defining the facial features and hair. No inscriptions or legends appear on this face of the coin, allowing the artistic motif to dominate the entire reverse field. The design draws direct inspiration from the decorative sculptural reliefs adorning Riga's celebrated Art Nouveau buildings. |

| Additional information |
Issued as part of Latvia's ongoing program of fine gold collector pieces, this coin was struck at a moment of considerable national momentum — Latvia had joined both NATO and the European Union in 2004, and the following year saw a wave of cultural pride expressed partly through numismatic commissions. The Art Nouveau theme is no accident: Riga holds one of the largest concentrations of Jugendstil architecture in Europe, much of it built between 1896 and 1913, and the city had been actively marketing that heritage to international audiences.
Struck to .9999 fineness at a reported mintage of 10,000 pieces.
