Obverse description Central field features a stylized chrysanthemum or solar rosette motif with a small central hole, flanked by four large Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion reading 嗣德通寶 (Tự Đức Thông Bảo), denoting the reign title and monetary inscription. The border is elaborately decorated with a continuous band of ruyi cloud scrolls and an inner beaded ring, all executed in the bold, high-relief cast style characteristic of Vietnamese imperial coinage of the Nguyễn dynasty.
