| Obverse description | Rectangular cast gold ingot-form piece with a plain recessed border framing the field. Four Chữ Nôm/Hán characters are incused vertically in the center of the field, reading top to bottom: 明命年造 (Minh Mệnh Niên Tạo), meaning 'Made in the reign of Minh Mạng.' The characters are rendered in a bold, brush-style calligraphic hand, deeply engraved into the rough-textured gold surface. The field displays the characteristic tool-mark striations typical of Vietnamese cast gold currency of the Nguyễn dynasty. |
