The People's Bank of Burma was established in 1952 but took on its full central banking role only after Ne Win's 1962 coup swept away the parliamentary government and nationalized the financial system. This note belongs to the first substantive series issued under that restructured authority — a deliberate break from the Union Bank series that preceded it.

Bundesdruckerei's involvement is worth noting. The Berlin printer had produced German colonial and Weimar-era currency and brought that same intaglio precision to several Southeast Asian contracts during the 1960s. The watermark is the sole security feature, modest by any measure for a note of this period.
