| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of President Hastings Kamuzu Banda occupying the majority of the field, rendered in high relief with fine detail on the cropped hair and suit collar. The effigy is engraved in a naturalistic portrait style attributed to Paul Vincze. The legend MALAWI curves along the lower periphery in bold incuse Latin lettering, partially underlapping the truncation of the portrait. |
