This piece belongs to Turkey's long-running wildlife conservation series, which the Turkish State Mint has used since the early 2000s to spotlight endangered and threatened species native to Anatolia and surrounding regions. The marbled duck — Marmaronetta angustirostris — was once widespread across the Mediterranean basin and Central Asia but has declined sharply due to wetland drainage, with Turkey's Göksu Delta among its last significant breeding grounds.
Struck in nickel silver rather than the bimetallic constructions common elsewhere in the series, this issue saw limited circulation demand given its collector-oriented purpose.
