Issued as part of the FAO's "Food for All" campaign, this aluminium piece replaced an earlier brass version of the same type — the KM#924a designation marks the composition change made specifically to reduce production costs as Turkey's economy deteriorated under severe inflation and political instability in the late 1970s. The country was effectively ungovernable by 1979, lurching between coalition governments before the military coup of September 1980.
