Obverse description Central field features the elaborate tughra (imperial cipher) of Sultan Abdülmecid I, flanked by stylized foliate ornamental branches. The tughra is enclosed within a beaded or dotted inner circle surrounded by a wreath of twelve stars. The regnal year, expressed in Eastern Arabic numerals, appears above or within the design, denoting the year of reign counted from the sultan's accession.
