| 正面描述 | The Turkish national emblem of a crescent and five-pointed star occupies the central field, rendered in low relief against a plain background. The circular legend TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ (Republic of Turkey) runs along the upper periphery in Latin script. A small decorative foliate ornament appears at the base of the design, separating the ends of the legend. |

Turkey's shift to brass for small-denomination coinage in the early 1960s coincided with the political turbulence following the May 1960 military coup, which ousted Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and suspended the constitution. The junta's economic restructuring included currency reforms intended to stabilize a lira that had suffered serious devaluation through the late 1950s. By the time civilian government resumed under the 1961 constitution, this coin was already being struck into an economy where its purchasing power was nearly negligible.
