| Obverse description | Three lines of Arabic script filling the field, reading the ruler's name and titles: 'Ali bin Ala'ad-Din Malik the Pious.' The legends are rendered in a bold, informal hand typical of Acehnese hammered coinage, with the characters raised in high relief against a granular gold ground. The entire inscription is enclosed within a beaded circle border. The flan is irregular in shape, as characteristic of hand-struck Southeast Asian gold coinage of the sixteenth century. |
