Reverse description The brass center of the reverse depicts a dynamic allegorical scene in high relief showing a female figure, representing Europa, astride a bull, rendered in a classical mythological style with flowing drapery and wind-swept hair. Multiple five-pointed stars are scattered throughout the field around the central group, evoking the symbolism of European unity. The copper-nickel outer ring is plain and smooth, carrying the legend THE OLD EUROPEAN CURRENCY along its upper arc in raised Latin capitals, bordered on the inner edge by a continuous ring of fine beading.
