Obverse description Bare-headed bust of King Ludwig II of Bavaria facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair. The legend LUDWIG II is inscribed to the left of the effigy, while KOENIG V. BAYERN arcs around the upper right periphery. The engraver's name VOIGT appears in small capitals at the base of the bust in the lower field. The coin is framed by a finely beaded border.

Reverse description Within a wreath of oak leaves tied at the base, the denomination 1 KRONE is inscribed in two lines at centre, with the year of issue directly below. The legend VEREINSMÜNZE arcs across the upper portion of the coin outside the wreath, while 50 EIN PFUND FEIN is inscribed along the lower periphery, denoting the fineness standard of 1/50 pound fine gold. Small floral ornaments flank either side of the wreath opening. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
